All the points. No flowers.

The official programme of a team that keeps doing everything right and losing anyway.

Exhibit A

The case file

Expected wins come from the all-play record: every week, how many of the other nine teams would you have beaten? A team with average luck wins about that share of its games. You haven't.

Points against, on pace

Chasing the wrong record

Regular season only (weeks 1–14). Current-season totals are projected: points against so far ÷ games played × 14.

      The only way out

      Road to the bye

Six teams make the playoffs. The two division winners get seeds 1–2 and a first-round bye; everyone else fights over four wild-card spots by record, with points for as the tiebreaker. The model below plays out the rest of the season 10,000 times, using each team's scoring so far, pulled toward the league average, then lowered in any week a team loses players to NFL byes (see Bye-week watch).

        Bye-week watch

Each team's "bye hit" is how many points its best possible lineup loses that week, using every player's points per game (games played only), after bench players fill in. Kickers and defenses are left out since they get streamed. It counts depth, so a bye you can cover barely registers. The playoff odds above already include these hits.

        The trade desk

Each trade is scored by the fantasy points its pieces put up as starters for the team that got them, from the trade onward. Traded draft picks are traced to the player they turned into, and to that player's points.
